Inter Milan will make the trip to Russia after suffering their first defeat in the Serie A on Saturday.

Jose Mourinho’s men have been rather inconsistent in recent weeks and they finally received their first loss after a number of shaky performances.

The loss came at the hands of Sampdoria, who have been on amazing form to open the season, but the effort Inter put in left a lot to be desired.

In their first match of the Champions League, Inter drew 0-0 with Barcelona at the San Siro. Barcelona controlled the match, but Inter displayed a strong will and were able to claim a very impressive point.

Diego Milito and Samuel Eto’o have formed an incredibly dangerous partnership in attack for Inter Milan. The two strikers have accounted for eight goals in six league games.

Gurban Berdiyev’s Rubin Kazan fought admirably in their opening match of the Champions League against Dinamo Kiev, and on a better day, they could have emerged victorious. Instead, Berdiyev faces an uphill climb after a 1-0 first half lead was eventually cancelled out, and then erased in a 3-1 loss.

Rubin Kazan, who won their first Russian Premier League title in 2008, have carried their winning run into the 2009 season, as they currently sit top of the table with seven games remaining in the league.

While the domestic accolades are adding up, the team are still to make their mark in Europe and will be favourites to finish last in the group.

Alejandro Dominguez has been a man on a mission since his return to the club and could potentially be one to watch. The Argentine striker has scored 14 goals in 18 appearances since returning to Rubin Kazan after a two year stint with Zenit.

Prediction

Travelling to Russia is never a fun thing for European clubs. The pitches are often horrendous, the temperatures freezing, and the travel, long.

Still, Inter Milan hold a decent record against Russian clubs in Russia, having won their last two matches there. The Italians' overall record on Russian soil is three wins, two draws, and one loss from six meetings.

Inter will be expected to win against Rubin Kazan, who are featuring in their first ever Champions League this season, but it may be hard work for the Nerazzurri.
