Arsenal survived a huge scare in their opening Champions League football match against Standard Liege.

The Londoners found themselves down 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the contest, but were able to claw their way back and win 3-2.

In Premier League Football, Arsenal have now won two straight after dropping two against Manchester United and Manchester City. On Saturday, Robin van Persie’s goal, just after the interval, was enough to seal a 1-0 victory for Arsenal over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Andrei Arshavin returned to the lineup after missing two weeks through an injury sustained on international duty. The return of the Russian adds an extra element of creativity to an already strong midfield.

Olympiakos

Olympiakos make the trip to London level on points with Arsenal in group H after Vassilis Torosidis’ 79th minute goal was the difference as Olympiakos handed AZ a 1-0 defeat on matchday one.

Olympiakos are traditionally a team that wins, or places within the top three, in the Greek league every year. They are consistently good enough to qualify for the Champions League, but never really able to leap over the next hurdle and challenge when faced with European competition.

Their home fans are exceptional, but they struggle mightily to get results on their travel.

Their recent 2-1 victory over AEK in the Greek league is testament to the good form Zico’s men are on, however, good form or not, it will take an out-of-this-world performance to beat Arsenal in London.

 

Prediction

There is quite simply a difference in class between these clubs.

With Arsenal already experiencing a hiccup, Olympiakos’ chances of facing an unfocused Gunners side at home are slim to none.

Olympiakos have not beaten an English team away from home in the Champions League before, and this trend looks to continue as Arsenal enter the match as heavy favourites to win.
