Celtic will be fighting for their European lives on Thursday when Tony Mowbray’s men go toe-to-toe with the Germans in this Celtic vs Hamburg clash.

Hamburg

Hamburg have been grinding away like a locomotive so far this year.

Bruno Labbadia’s side have been in top form and currently sit even on points with Bayer Leverkusen for a share of the Bundesliga lead.

However, for all their dominance in recent weeks, Hamburg missed a golden opportunity to claim sole possession of first place on Saturday when Leverkusen came to HSH Nordbank Arena.

The North Germans were only able to manage a 0-0 draw and dearly missed their Serbian striker, Mladen Petric.

Petric, who scored 12 goals in 25 appearances during the 2008/09 campaign, has been ruled out until the new year due to an ankle injury.

With Jose Paolo Guerrero also out with a lengthy injury, the Hamburg attack will need an injection from Swedish summer signing, Marcus Berg in this Celtic v Hamburg football match.

 

Prediction

The two teams met twice in the 1996/97 UEFA Cup. The Celtic vs Hamburg meeting at Parkhead saw SV Hamburg win 2-0, whilst the reverse fixture ended the same way and with the same scoreline.

Hamburg have won one and lost one of their first two matches in the group.

While both clubs will be hoping for a win, a draw could very well be the verdict on Thursday night at Celtic Park.
