Cagliari Calcio welcome defending champions, Inter, to Sardinia on Sunday as they try to regain their form from last season.

Cagliari, after years of battling it out at the bottom of the Serie A table, turned some heads last season as they finished 9th. The success was seen as a turning point and something to build off of coming into the 2009/10 season, but the new season has unfortunately reminded us of the Cagliari of old.

After three matches played, Cagliari have managed only one point, after an opening day 0-0 draw with newcomers Livorno.

Cagliari followed up the draw with a dismal performance in a 3-1 loss to Siena at home. They then travelled north to Turin to take on Juventus, where they lost, somewhat expectedly, 1-0.

To make matters worse, Cagliari are still looking to score their first goal from open play as Italy's best defence makes its journey south.

Inter Milan

Inter Milan come from a decent 0-0 draw against Champions League defending champions Barcelona.

Barca looked the better side on Wednesday evening, but Mourinho will be pleased to get a point from the match.

The defending Serie A champions have won two of their first three matches, having drawn the third. Their form is good and the additions of Wesley Sneijder, Samuel Eto’o and Diego Milito have all burst onto the scene for Inter.

Eto’o scored a fantastic goal against Parma on Sunday, and while Inter Milan won 2-0, the goals didn’t come until after the 70th minute.

Inter have dominated the Serie A in recent years and are expected to do so again this season. Their first few games, apart from the opening day draw with Bari, would suggest that they will be there in the thick of things at the end of this season, as well.

Esteban Cambiasso is still missing in the midfield, but Inter have the luxury of depth at all positions.

Prediction

Cagliari was one of few teams that got the better of Inter last season. Cagliari won their home match, 2-1, and drew away 1-1 at the San Siro.

Inter play extremely well against top opposition, but tend to let their guard down on occasion. Having played in midweek and making the travel down, a backlash could come for the top club. Given the odds, Cagliari could be worth a look.
