Everton come into the match against Blackburn having won one and lost three of their opening four matches.

The most recent of losses came on Sunday against Fulham as they failed to hold a halftime lead. Moyes watched on as the Londoners equalised and then captured the lead in the second half.

Moyes’ worries will not be relieved by the long list of injuries he now has to deal with. Phil Neville, who suffered knee ligament damage against Fulham, has been ruled out indefinitely, while Mikel Arteta has been ruled out an additional six weeks due to complications in his recovery from knee surgery.

Blackburn will feel a sense of relief ahead of their trip to Goodison Park after a convincing 3-1 victory over Wolverhampton on Saturday.

El-Hadji Diouf, David Dunn and Jason Roberts gave Blackburn a 3-0 lead before Wolverhampton brought one back just two minutes before time.

Roberts, in particular, was on top form against Wolves as he scored the second goal of the game and set up Dunn for the third. The win comes as a relief for Sam Allardyce as his side claimed their first victory of the season.

Gael Givet's performances have been a pleasant surprise for Blackburn this season and with the arrival of Pascal Chimbonda, Rovers have a good option at left back.

Prediction

Blackburn enjoyed success against Everton last season as they won two of the three meetings between the clubs. An opening day victory against Everton in the league was followed up by a Carling Cup victory. The final match, at Ewood Park, was a 0-0 draw.

Everton have the capacity to be a top five team, though injuries have plagued them for far too long. They will need to start getting results soon or the season could be lost.
