Chelsea have started the season on fantastic form and continued their dominance over opponents with a 1-0 Champions League victory over Porto on Tuesday.
With a steady downpour over Stamford Bridge, oddly, it was Porto who dealt with the conditions best as they coped in fine fashion and opened the better of the two sides. While the halftime score read 0-0, Porto could easily have gone in front on a number of occasions in the first half.
But, as teams have grown to know, if you don’t bury your chances against Chelsea, you often rue the consequences.
Just after the break, in the 48th minute, Nicolas Anelka was sent clear by Salomon Kalou. The France international had his initial shot blocked by Helton, but the parry fell kindly into his path and he did brilliantly to find the back of the net with a defender sliding in on his heels.
From that moment on, Chelsea had a firm grip on the match. They ate up more and more of possession, and on a better day, could have added a second or third. In the end, the three points were thoroughly deserved.
Drogba missed the match against Porto through suspension and will likely return to face Spurs. The Ivorian has been on fantastic form to start the season.
Joe Cole returned to the bench against Porto but did not feature. The addition of his services is yet another weapon at the disposal of Carlo Ancelotti for opposing sides to fear.

Harry Redknapp's Tottenham Hotspur side come in after suffering their first defeat of the season at the hands of Manchester United.
In a rather questionable move, Harry Redknapp opted to slot Robbie Keane into the midfield and give Peter Crouch a start up front. Still, Tottenham were off to a flying start as Jermain Defoe scored, yet again, this time in the first minute of the game.
After that, United struck back to hit two past Carlo Cudicini before the break. After the half, Spurs picked up the pace and had two very close chances go begging as Crouch headed off the bar and Jermain Jenas was denied by Ben Foster.
In the end, United were able to tack on a third through Wayne Rooney in the 78th minute, and that killed the match.
Nico Kranjcar was strangely left on the bench against United until the 72nd minute, but should feature against Chelsea.
Heurelho Gomes has returned to fitness following his groin injury and could replace Cudicini on Sunday.

Tottenham won their home match against Chelsea 1-0 and drew with them 0-0 at Stamford Bridge last season.
Chelsea needed last minute heroics to stay perfect against Stoke last weekend and could feel the effects of the midweek match against Porto. They’ve been living somewhat dangerously this week and Spurs could be the ones to spoil their perfect record.
