Aston Villa will be looking to extend their run of good form against a struggling Portsmouth on Saturday.

Martin O’Neill's men will enter the match having won their last three Premier League matches.

Last week's derby victory over Birmingham City was a hard fought battle which looked to be heading to a 0-0 draw, before Gabriel Agbonlahor scored an 85th minute winner.

James Collins and Richard Dunne made their Villa debuts against Birmingham in the heart of the defence. The newcomers were able to ensure a clean sheet against the Villa rivals and will be hoping to repeat the feat against Portsmouth.

Curtis Davies is ruled out until the new year following shoulder surgery.

Portsmouth

Portsmouth enter their sixth match of the season still looking for their first points of the 2009/10 campaign.

Paul Hart has endured a miserable start to the season having lost all five of his previous matches ahead of the trip to Villa Park.

Portsmouth, who struggled through the summer, were tipped to face a relegation battle after losing a number of key players. However, the team is now off to their worst start in history.

The most recent loss against Bolton must be considered a tough blow for Hart's men after they twice fighting back from down a goal, only to concede defeat through an 89th minute winner by Gary Cahill.

Tal Ben-Haim, Kevin Prince Boateng and Hassan Yebda are a few of a number of last minute transfers that could provide a spark for Portsmouth as they attempt to turn things around.

Prediction

As far as Aston Villa vs Portsmouth past meetings go, the two clubs met each other twice last season, both in the league, with Aston Villa winning 1-0 at Fratton Park, but being held 0-0 at Villa Park.

Portsmouth are really struggling and despite an improved performance against Bolton in their last match, Villa should take the game to them.
