English Premier League Football
Kick-Off: 12:45
Manchester City begin their quest for a Champions League spot by visiting the team who denied them fourth place last year, Tottenham Hotspur, in arguably the most intriguing of the opening day fixtures.

For once, a Spurs pre-season has seen relatively little upheaval, with things quiet on both the transfer and managerial fronts ahead of this Tottenham - Manchester City opening fixture.
The stars that helped the London club reach the promised land of the Champions League for the first time last season all remain, and will shortly be bolstered by the acquisition of promising Brazilian midfielder Sandro.
Doubts remain, however, about the futures of a number of the first-team squad, including strikers Robbie Keane and Peter Crouch (both seemingly surplus to requirements), and injury-prone defenders Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate.
Crouch may however make the starting eleven alongside Jermain Defoe for Saturday's Tottenham vs Man City match, as Russian hit-man Roman Pavlyuchenko is struggling with a hamstring strain.
Spurs will be keen to get off to a good start with a win against a key opponent for a Champions League place, in what is otherwise a relatively gentle opening to the season.
Saturday’s match is ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Young Boys, before matches with Stoke, Wigan and West Brom.

Man City’s biggest problem ahead of Saturday’s league opener is one of choosing which 25 of their players will be assigned a shirt number to come in line with the Premier League’s new squad rules.
Most at risk appears to be Craig Bellamy, who is being linked with a move away from Eastlands, while several other fringe players may miss out, including strikers Jô, Felipe Caicedo and Roque Santa Cruz, all of whom may follow Bellamy out of the door – as well of course the large question mark hanging over the head of Robinho.
New singings Kolarov, Silva, Boateng and Yaya Touré are sure to be given debuts, although in exactly what formation manager Roberto Mancini chooses nobody seems to know.
Experienced goalkeeper Shay Given is the only person sure to miss the season opener as he is suffering with a shoulder injury.
Mancini will be desperate to win the opening game of his first full season in charge; after all, if he doesn’t quickly guide City to the top four of the table, he may find himself out of a job just as predecessor and new Fulham boss Mark Hughes did.

Tottenham did the double on their Mancunian rivals last season, winning 3-0 at White Hart Lane in December thanks to two goals from Niko Krancjar, and securing their place in the Champions League at Eastlands 1-0 thanks to Peter Crouch’s header.
There’s no reason to expect anything different this time, either, as Spurs have the more settled side. while City look to bed in their new players.
First blood to the Londoners.
