Wigan Athletic lost 1-0 at home to West Ham in their last league match, the Latics eight straight league match without a victory.

In their last five, Wigan have drawn three and lost two, earning themselves only three points from the fifteen on offer. They scored one goal and conceded three in these matches, and currently sit 9th in the league, equal on points with 8th placed Manchester City, and one point clear of 10th placed Fulham.

Wigan will be without Antoine Sibierski, but new signing Cho Won-Hee could be available for tihs match.

Wigan will also miss Lee Cattermole, who is serving the first of his four match suspension.

Prediction

The two sides drew 1-1 earlier this season at JJB Stadium, with last year's Sunderland vs Wigan fixture ending in a 2-0 Sunderland victory.

Wigan's attacking form has slumped terribly in recent times, with the Latics having only scored once in their last five matches - three of which ended in 0-0 draws.

Sunderland, on the other hand, have been performing quite well lately, with recent wins against Stoke and Fulham, and draws against Arsenal and Tottenham.

Combine this with the home crowd of the Stadium of Light at their back, and Sunderland enter this fixture as favourites for victory. Wigan's defence, however, has been in stellar form lately, with the Latics conceding only six goals in their last ten matches - with fixtures against all of the league's current top four - and so yet another 0-0 draw is definitely a possibility for this match as well.
