Fifth seed Juan Martin del Potro is continuing to enjoy the success and good form that has seen him skyrocket to the World No. 5 spot in the ATP rankings, by making his first ever French Open quarter-finals after defeating local favourite Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in a relatively tame four-set encounter.
The 20-year-old Argentinian prodigy makes this his third grand slam quarter final appearance, after reaching the final eight in both the 2008 US Open and the 2009 Australian Open.
Juan Martin del Potro has had a smooth ride to the quarterfinals, dropping only a single set and defeating the likes of Igor Andreev, Viktor Troicki and Michael Llodra in addition to Tsonga.
But if del Potro is going to reach his first ever Grand Slam semi-final here at Roland Garros, he will first have to overcome a seasoned professional of the circuit who has enjoyed regular success at the French Open for the past seven years.

27-year-old Spaniard Tommy Robredo will enjoy his fourth quarter-final appearance at the French Open when he takes on Juan Martin del Potro on Wednesday, after reaching this stage in 2003, 2005 and 2007.
The 16th seed has had a comfortable run so far, with his only set dropped so far coming at the hands of fourth round opponent, 29th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber.

The two have met only once before, at the ATP Madrid back in 2007, where del Potro came out as the surprise winner in a three-set, second round encounter.
However since then, Juan Martin del Potro has climbed up the world rankings in leaps and bounds, currently sitting at his all-time best position of fifth in the world.
This is in contrast to Tommy Robredo, once fifth in the world back in 2006, who now finds himself 17th in men's tennis.
Juan Martin del Potro has had an impressive run-in to the French Open, reaching the semi-finals in Madrid (where he lost to Roger Federer), after beating Andy Murray in the quarter-finals.
Tommy Robredo on the other hand has produced no real surprises in his clay performances leading into Roland Garros, losing to Andy Murray in the third round in Madrid and to Novak Djokovic in the third round of Rome.
Still, this will not likely be a walk-over for the 20-year-old del Potro, with Tommy Robredo always finding his best form at Roland Garros. The match looks to be a potentially close encounter, and del Potro will have to work hard to overcome the powerful Tommy Robredo forehand.
But the rising star that is Juan Martin del Potro looks to make a further career best for himself by booking a place in this year's French Open semi-finals, as he enters the match against Tommy Robredo as favourite to win.
